As it approaches its centenary, the Stoke Fleming Bowls Club has received a generous donation from Westcountry homebuilder, Cavanna Homes, which has laid the foundations for another century of play.
A £1000 donation from Cavanna Homes has funded important groundworks at the club which was formed nearly 100 years ago.
The work has involved hollow tining, a process that allows the compacted turf to expand and absorb moisture, top dressing and reseeding of the green, as well as new planting to improve the general look of the club. The wooden surrounds around the green were also replaced and the club house received a re-vamp, with repairs to the leaking roof and new cladding.
Tony Andrew, Chairman at the Stoke Fleming Bowls Club, said: “Annual subscriptions to the club is our only source of income and being a small club, with less than 30 members, that income doesn’t cover the cost of upkeep. Therefore, the donation we received from Cavanna Homes is not only extremely welcome, as it has allowed us to carry out essential maintenance, but also goes a very long way to securing the ongoing viability of the bowls club itself.
“Stoke Fleming has always been known for its friendly welcome and picturesque setting, but with the help of Cavanna we have this year been able to further improve the village facilities and enhance the aesthetics of our green. We’re extremely thankful for the support Cavanna Homes has shown us and we’re looking forward to seeing our little village grow as people move into their new Cavanna homes.”
Cavanna Homes is currently building 24 new homes in the village. Sales Manager Karen Heywood-Cann, said: “At Cavanna Homes we really believe in doing what we can to enhance the local community. Stoke Fleming may be small, but the village has a strong community and the Stoke Fleming Bowls Club, which will see its 100th year in 2017, is at the heart of it. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the Stoke Fleming Bowls Club.”
Offshore offers a collection of three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached properties, all finished in the traditional local style using natural slate, brick or render. Many properties include en-suite bathrooms and all of the homes have dedicated parking.
Karen continued: “The houses at Offshore are located in one of the most desirable locations we’ve offered to date. Stoke Fleming is a charming little village that looks out over the South Devon cliffs. It boasts of award winning beaches just minutes away and a two-mile drive to the beautiful and popular town of Dartmouth. This really is a fantastic opportunity to buy a stylish and practical new home in an unbeatable rural location.”
All properties at Offshore come complete with a 10 year NHBC Warranty and, depending on which stage the property is reserved, buyers may have the opportunity to select bathroom wall tiles and kitchen units.
