Almost two years after cutting the first turf at Cavanna Homes Origins development in the South Hams village of Dartington, only seven homes remain for sale.
These sustainable, design-led properties with their timber cladding, stone and natural slate roofing have proved very popular, especially with local buyers. Nearly two thirds of those who have bought a new home at Origins have moved from Dartington, Totnes and the surrounding area.
Sales Advisor, Kevyn Dixon, said: “A great community is already forming here and the demographic of buyers is really diverse. People who have bought homes range from single individuals and young couples buying their first home to families with little children and older couples. It’s the sort of community where everyone pitches in and helps each other.
“Many of the new buyers have commented on the extremely high quality of the houses. They particularly like the style and design of the homes which is in keeping with the Dartington area. Residents are also really impressed with the thermal insulation, noting that it’s significantly reduced utility and heating bills.”
A recent survey by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) found that the energy efficiency of a new home results in savings of up to £1,400 a year on utility bills compared to a Victorian equivalent. At Origins all properties have UPVC double glazed windows and some are fitted with solar thermal panels.
Among those properties still available to buy at Origins are the four remaining house types the Allerton, Staverton, Hallview and Westcombe house styles.
The one remaining Allerton property is a three bedroom, semi-detached home, featuring a combined kitchen/ dining area with French doors onto the rear garden as well as a separate living room, downstairs cloakroom and en-suite master bedroom.
The Staverton offers four bedrooms, including a master bedroom en-suite as well as a family bathroom on the first floor, while the Hallview is a reverse level, detached home with open plan kitchen/dining/living space with part vaulted ceilings and a log burner.
The Origins development has provided over £160,000 of contributions to the local community, including £27,000 towards the upgrade of the Dartington to Totnes cycle link, £44,000 for open space and play provisions and £90,000 to improve community sports facilities.
As with all Cavanna homes, the properties at Origins come with a 10-year NHBC Buildmark Warranty and Cavanna’s renowned two-year customer support pledge, which has helped the Torquay-based firm earn the maximum five stars for customer satisfaction following an independent survey of buyers carried out by the Home Builders Federation for the fourth year running.
