Cavanna Homes celebrates its 95th birthday

It’s our 95th anniversary!

To mark our impressive milestone, we celebrated at all our sites with a selection of delicious cakes and bright balloons for people to enjoy. Cavanna Homes started in 1923 when Philip Cavanna left his home in Watford for the English Riviera in search of an exciting new venture. He invested his entire life savings of £200 (a third of the average house price then), into the company which has grown to become the largest independent house builder in the South West, with a strong reputation for building high quality new homes.

We still remain a family business, committed to the principles of high quality design and construction set by Philip Cavanna, and we have been awarded the maximum five stars for customer satisfaction in the nationwide Home Builders Federation survey in 2018, for the sixth consecutive year in a row.

So far this year we have seen work start on a number of our exciting new developments, including Kings Orchard in Stoke Gabriel offering a selection of two to four-bedroom homes. Also in the idyllic South Hams, our new homes at Yarners Mill, Dartington are being snapped up by home seekers. We’ve recently had the grand opening of our marketing suite at Berryfields in Barnstaple where there are twelve different styles and finishes to complement the local area.

Our flagship 504k development in Plymouth on the site of the former Plymouth Airport, is also nearing completion after six years. Only a few modern, energy efficient houses are still for sale. Earlier this year we welcomed 34 French students to 504k to show them the range of exciting career opportunities available within the construction industry. Nathalie Kerneis, Economics and Business Studies teacher, commented on the trip: “We felt very welcomed by Cavanna Homes on an earlier visit and both students and teachers learnt a lot, so we were keen to return. Those students studying business will now have the opportunity to talk about their visit with Cavanna Homes as part of their oral exam”.

We recently announced our headline sponsorship of the Torbay Art Show as well as becoming an official partner of the South West Rotary Youth Games, and have also been triumphant in a number of prestigious industry awards;

  • South West winner for the Best High Volume (large) New Housing Development in the Local Authority Building Control’s (LABC) annual Building Excellence Awards for our Primrose Hill development
  • We were also shortlisted for Best Low Volume (small) New Housing Development and Best Social or Affordable Housing Development.

Our Site Manager, Gary Gregory, has also been announced as a South West finalist in the LABC’s Residential Construction Professional of the Year category for his role at our Palstone Meadow development in South Brent.

Joining Gary, our Site Managers Paul Whitlock and Russell Gibson won the 2018 Pride in the Job awards by the NHBC (National House Building Council), which saw 16,000 site managers across the UK enter.

In five years’ time we will be celebrating our centenary birthday so keep an eye out for more cake and celebrations to come!
