Class 5 pupils from Collaton St Mary Primary School in Paignton put on their wellie boots and high vis jackets and joined us to learn first-hand how to build a house.
The 9 and 10 year olds, along with their teacher Mr Ben Nelson-Smith, were taken on a site visit to our Kings Orchard site with our Head of Health and Safety, Richard Henderson, and Group Director Martin Cavanna.
The class were given a behind the scenes tour which included seeing how land is prepared, and the different stages of construction, through to new homes waiting for windows and doors to be installed. Our Sales Advisor Kevyn Dixon then showed the children around our new show home and spoke about the selection of new homes being built at Kings Orchard.
One year 5 pupil said: “It was really interesting seeing how the houses are built and getting to look around the lovely show home. It was a great day out and we were even allowed to keep our high-vis jackets!”.
Following the site visit, the children are designing their own dream homes taking inspiration from their site visit. The winning design will be showcased in the Kings Orchard Marketing Suite.
Martin Cavanna added: “It was a pleasure to speak to the students about all the different stages of homebuilding and to see them so engaged and eager to learn. We hope they’ve been inspired to consider a future career in the construction sector!”
Year 5 teacher, Mr Ben Nelson-Smith, said: “Visiting Kings Orchard was a fantastic opportunity for the children. This enabled them to see a working construction site first-hand and also gave them an insight into the business element. The children found the site visit very informative and it has really helped with their enterprise experience”.
