Wonderful Westcountry; Kings Orchard in Stoke Gabriel

Steeped in history and well known for its mill pond and crab fishing, the idyllic South Hams village of Stoke Gabriel rises from a creek on the picturesque River Dart. This bustling community has a boating association, primary school, football club, pubs, post office and many other local amenities.

Families love crabbing from the quayside, a favourite pastime for many locals and visitors alike, and there are fabulous scenic walks along the riverbank, through ancient orchards and through the winding streets of this parish.

Our stunning Kings Orchard development enjoys an enviable position within this gorgeous riverside location and is surrounded by stunning open countryside and an apple orchard, which inspired the Kings Orchard name.

Within easy reach of Stoke Gabriel – about 15 minutes by car – is the thriving, historic market town of Totnes. This unique and colourful place boasts a range of independent shops and places to eat, with a strong focus on locally produced, organic food and drink. It also has a busy events calendar with many festivals, food markets and fun activities taking place throughout the year.

In the other direction, also about 15 minutes’ drive – is the seaside town of Paignton with its long sandy beach, promenade and traditional pier. Crazy golf is a family favourite, as is a visit to Paignton Zoo and nearby Occombe Farm.

Paignton is also the perfect place from which to join the South West Coast Path, with its rugged trails and breath-taking views, which are a treat at any time of the year. Walk over to popular Torquay in one direction, or the pretty fishing town of Brixham in the other.

If you fancy seeing this beautiful area from a different perspective, let the train take the strain and hop on the Dartmouth Steam Railway which runs from Paignton to Kingswear, and sit back and soak up the atmosphere and beauty of South Devon.

If you take a pleasure cruise up the River Dart to Totnes, one of the places you’ll spot along the way is Greenway, the beloved holiday home of the famous author Agatha Christie, which is a must-see for fans of her work. This National Trust property and its gardens, allow visitors to take a glimpse into the lives of Agatha and her family, who would regularly stay here.

One of the other things we love so much about this part of the world is the natural beauty that is on the doorstep. Keen walkers and explorers really are spoilt for choice in this part of the world – within 20 minutes of Kings Orchard you’ll find yourself in Dartmoor National Park, a 368 square mile delight of wild, open moorlands, wildlife and incredible landscapes.

Our commitment to the local area goes so much further than just the homes we build, and Kings Orchard is a perfect example of that. As part of our development work we are providing land and creating a new village hall for the community, as well as contributing towards improving local football and cricket facilities and the boating association.  We are also providing allotments, additional classrooms at Stoke Gabriel Primary School and funding for school transport in Totnes.

Of course, due to Covid-19 we are all unable to visit many of these wonderful places at the moment. Rest assured though, they are waiting for you, as are we.

There are just three plots remaining in Kings Orchard, find out more about the development here. We would be pleased to invite you to view one of our Show Homes or Marketing Suites by booking an appointment.

Please send us an email via [email protected] with your details and one of our friendly team will be in touch.
