Get your home ready for autumn with top tips from our Cavanna homeowner, Alice Louise

Autumn is the perfect time to start lighting candles, get cosy and enjoy a hot drink in your comfiest pair of slippers. It’s also the time of year to start decorating your home ready for the crisp autumn months!

Alice Louise, an Instagrammer who regularly posts photos of her new home at our Fusion development in the seaside town of Paignton, shares her top tips on how she gets her home ready for fall and what inspires her.

“Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year; it has a really cosy feel about it and I love creating a warm and relaxing ambience around our home.

“For anyone looking to change their interior décor to fit with the season, I would recommend starting with a full house clean – I always find it therapeutic and it’s a great way of going through each room and removing any summery décor such as fake flowers or light and floral smelling candles.

“As soon as October hits, I light autumnal smelling candles around our home – not only do they provide soft and dainty lighting, but they smell amazing! I’m currently burning candy apple scented candles by Avenue16. Candles are a great way of quickly transforming a room to become cosy and warm, particularly with the darker evenings drawing in.

“You don’t need to go big and bold, there are lots of smaller statement pieces you can add to create that perfect tone and feel, such as big knitted blankets or seasonal mugs.

“For anyone following my page, you’ll know I’m a huge Emma Bridgewater fan and currently have over 30 of her gorgeous mugs. The change in season is a great excuse to go through my growing collection and put away any summery and floral mugs, and start using the autumn-inspired designs, such as the pretty Pumpkin pattern.

“There are also lots of seasonal trinkets you can tastefully add without making your home feel cluttered and busy. I’ve recently purchased a fox tealight holder from The Kooky Fox, who I discovered on Instagram, and added patterned throws in a few of our bedrooms. In the evenings, try turning off your main light and replacing it with the soft glow from a lamp, or twinkling fairy lights.

“A top tip for Netflix users is the fireplace feature which provides a comforting backdrop of a crackling fireplace, ideal for those evenings curled up on the sofa with a good book.

“One part of the house that can instantly create an autumnal feel is the porch or the area by your front door. As the weather gets cooler, the winter coats, long scarves, and comfy boots start making an appearance, and neatly placed will create a warm and welcoming feel to your home. Adding an autumnal wreath will finish-off the look!

“If you’re preparing your home ready for autumn, browse Instagram and Pinterest for some brilliant inspiration. The home section in retail shops such as Sainsbury’s and The Range are also great starting points, and if you time it right, you can discover some fantastic bargains!”, said Alice.
