On Your Doorstep… Places to explore in and around Hemyock

If a new family home with good sized bedrooms, a large garden, close to excellent schools and within a friendly community is what you’re dreaming of, then let us introduce you to Oak Mount in the idyllic village of Hemyock.

Located in the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Hemyock is surrounded by tranquil countryside, woodland and valleys with many public footpaths and cycle tracks to be explored. For nearby family walks, head to Quarts Moor National Reserve just outside of Wellington in Somerset, or the Wellington Monument, a 175-foot-high obelisk surrounded by incredible views.

Not forgetting the Culmstock Beacon under 4 miles away from Hemyock, which is a must-see wildlife haven with stunning views across the area and is accessible via a public bridleway for horse riders, ramblers or cyclists. There are plenty of scenic places to walk and discover for all the family and furry friends!

The village centre is a short walk from our Oak Mount development and provides amenities such as a Post Office, local shop, Church, pub and a Parish Hall, where activities are held most days of the week, including parent and toddler clubs, plus craft, fitness and music classes. A full list of social activities can be found in the local Parish Pump magazine – you can pick a copy up at the Blackdown Hills Business Centre in the heart of the village.  (Our Sales Office is located here too!)

Hemyock Recreation Ground is adjacent to the Parish Hall and used for football and cricket practice, plus there are tennis courts and a play park for children to enjoy.

Our homes are within the catchment area of the ‘Outstanding’ rated Uffculme School for children aged 11- 16 years. The school is a 15-minute car journey from Oak Mount, or children can take the school bus with a collection and drop-off point in the village. For younger children, Hemyock Primary School is just across the road from our new community, meaning pupils and parents can walk to and from school during the week.

Hemyock really does have everything you need; in fact, you could argue that you’d never need to leave! However, the surrounding areas have much to offer too.

Honiton town is a 25-minute car journey away where a thriving high street of fabulous independent shops, cafes and wine bars can be enjoyed. If you fancy heading into the city, Exeter is 45-minutes away by car, and you can explore the excellent food offering and an evening at the theatre or cinema.

For adrenaline seekers, Dunkeswell Airfield offers skydiving opportunities and is only a 10-minute car journey away!

Oak Mount provides easy access to Taunton and Wellington via the M5 Motorway, and Tiverton Parkway Train Station connects commuters to London, Bristol and beyond. Plus, there’s a fast service to London Paddington with a two-hour journey time! Throughout the year, Exeter Airport serves parts of Spain and Greece as well as offering a range of domestic flights too.

While we can certainly give you a flavour of all that awaits you at Oak Mount in Hemyock, there’s nothing quite like seeing the area for yourself.
