Summerleaze beach in Bude

Things To Do in And Around Bude

Bude has everything you’d expect from a vibrant coastal town; dramatic coastlines, beautiful beaches, as well as postcard beach huts, and our new homes development, Bellevue is located just outside Bude, in Stratton. The homes are perfectly situated close to coast AND countryside, offering residents the best of both worlds!

So, if you’re looking to relocate to one of our new builds in Cornwall and want to know more about the area, what surrounds the homes and what you can get up to, carry on reading below…

Beaches and Watersports

Bude has some of the best beaches to explore in the whole country – there’s a reason why it’s won Best Seaside Town three times at the British Travel Awards!

Summerleaze Beach is probably the most popular and is where you will find the famous sea pool which was built in 1930. Today, the pool is managed the charity, Friends of Bude Sea Pool whose volunteers maintain the free-to-use attraction for locals and visitors.

Further along the coast is Crooklets Beach which is particularly popular with surfers. If surfing isn’t for you, you’ll love exploring the busy rockpools followed by a drink or meal in the Crooklets Inn! The beach is also home to the Bude Surf Life Saving Club who Cavanna Homes supported by sponsoring new buoys for the club to use at training sessions and fundraising swims.

Upper Tamar Lake, which is around a 15-minute drive from Stratton, has an activity centre which offers surf and windsurfing lessons, alongside paddleboard and sailing courses. If you fancy, you can even try your hand at fishing there too.

Walk the Coast Path

If you love the great outdoors, there’s some beautiful walks to enjoy in and around Bude.

Take on a stretch of the South West Coast Path to enjoy stunning sea views, before heading inland along the Bude canal towpath. During the spring you might be lucky to ducklings and cygnets on the canal, so if you’re walking with a four-legged friend, be sure to keep them on a lead. You can find more information on this route here.

Bude’s Geology

Bude has interesting geological history which can be learnt about by taking a guided Geology walk with Dr Roger Higgs.

You could also visit the Bude Castle Heritage centre to see the fossil of Cornuboniscus budensis, a unique fossilized fish that can only be found in Bude. The fossil dates back approximately 300 million years ago (pre-dinosaurs!) when Bude’s climate was much more tropical and resembled modern Africa.

Enjoy the Food

There are many eateries in and around Bude that make great use of the local produce, you really are spoilt for choice! Sea Fever serves fresh Cornish seafood and their Head Chef, Kyan Hooper is a Bude native himself.

Lansdown Dairy is a family-run deli and shop, championing local produce – particularly Cornish cheese! They have been located in the heart of Bude for over 50 years and provide a warm and friendly service to locals and visitors.

If you’re looking for a fantastic restaurant we recommend, Potters which is run by husband-and-wife team Oly and Nikki, who describe their dishes as “Cornish tapas”or Temple, who serve a two-course set menu which changes daily depending on the harvest or catch of the day.
