Community groups in Bickington invited to apply for grant funding
Grants to support the work of charities and community groups in Bickington, North Devon, are now open for applications, thanks to Westcountry homebuilder Cavanna Homes. As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the communities where it builds, the funding will benefit local organisations near its new 77-home development.
Sports clubs, schools, charities and other locally-based organisations are being encouraged to put in their applications for the four, £250 grants, which form part of Cavanna’s commitment to enhancing the communities where it builds.
Applications open on the 16th October and should be submitted by writing to bick[email protected] by the 30th October. They should explain how and why the funds will help the charity, organisation or local people. Members of the Cavanna Homes team, including those closely associated with the Bickington Park development, will choose four worthy causes to share the £1,000 fund.
A number of organisations in the nearby village of North Molton, where Cavanna Homes is building its Hollywell Meadow development, have recently experienced the support of Cavanna’s Community Grant scheme
Recipients include the North Molton Sports and Community Centre, Friends of North Molton Primary School and Helping the Animals of North Devon (HANDS), which is coordinated from its base in North Molton.
HANDS volunteer veterinary surgeon, Heather Hammond, said the “funding will help the dedicated volunteer team to continue their mission of helping pets and wildlife in North Devon.”
She continued, “the charity’s main purposes are to facilitate veterinary treatments for sick or injured pets belonging to owners unable to afford normal veterinary fees, occasionally those owned by disabled or vulnerable people who are unable to attend a veterinary clinic, and also rescuing injured wildlife.
“Thanks to Cavanna Homes for providing funds to help towards veterinary procedures and transporting sick and injured animals, we are truly grateful.”
Cavanna Homes’ Sales Manager for Bickington Park, Lauren Edgecombe, said: “Cavanna Homes strives to create vibrant communities and the Community Grants are just one of the ways that enable us to do that.
“Our new homes at Bickington Park will enhance the existing community and we want to help it to continue to thrive by providing these grants to the organisations that we know are so important to local people.”
The new community, located just off Bickington Road, will offer 77 new homes, of which 23 will be allocated as affordable for local people, with the remaining 54 three and four-bedroom homes available on the open market.
All the properties will be heated using environmentally-friendly air-source heat pumps and installed with electric vehicle charging points. The majority will also include solar PV.
Retained hedgerows enclose the site and a new fruit orchard will be established. Tree planting will cover two acres of open space onsite, and will provide places for residents to enjoy, as well as supporting wildlife.
