Competitive spirit drives charitable fundraiser

Sunshine and good spirits were enjoyed at Cavanna Homes’ annual Charity Golf Day – where over £6,500 was raised for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), the firm’s Charity Partner.

Colleagues, contractors, consultants, and suppliers of the homebuilder gathered at Woodbury Park in East Devon on 13 June for a day of friendly golfing competition, followed by an evening meal, winner’s presentation, raffle, and well-bid charity auction.

Now in its sixth year, the day was organised to raise funds for CHSW, which Cavanna Homes has been supporting since 2019.

Providing vital hospice care for babies, children, and young people living with life-limiting conditions, the charity works tirelessly to make sure that affected children’s lives, and those of their families, are enriched through specialist care and family support services.

“The support of Cavanna Homes and the Golf Day attendees gives the gift of precious time to local families who face the unimaginable challenge of caring for a child who isn’t expected to reach their 18th birthday,” says Daniela Hopkins, Area Fundraiser for CHSW.

“Cavanna Homes’ ongoing partnership with CHSW is one that we’re truly grateful for and proud of. The team’s endless commitment and dedication to fundraising, means we can continue to put babies, children and families at the centre of everything we do.”

The worthy cause drew out good competition with 88 players split into 22 teams.

“Our annual Charity Golf Day is always a popular and well-attended event with many players returning year-on-year,” says Mel Potter, Head of Cavanna Homes’ Charity and Social Committee.

“The day before our fundraiser, the golf course had been closed due to bad weather. But the sun shone for us and encouraged a day of great play – this year was a record breaking year in the ‘Beat the pro’ competition.

“And while many took to the green, it was a joint effort to make sure the day and evening ran smoothly, with staff and their family members volunteering their time – it was very much a team effort.

“We’re all proud to play a small part in helping the remarkable CHSW continue to make all the difference to the lives of children and families across the South West.”

The £6,895 total was raised from ticket sales, donations, raffle, and evening auction, the latter including prized items like a Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke MAX Driver (gold club) – donated by Steel Craft and OTB Interiors – and a Golf Caddy – donated by Atlantic Bricklayers.
