About the area

Barnstaple is the largest town in North Devon and owes its origins to being an important crossing on the River Taw estuary.

The town offers residents and visitors an eclectic mix of excellent independent shops, restaurants and cafes as well as many familiar high-street brands. At the centre of the town sits a splendid and busy Victorian-built Pannier Market and Butchers Row where wonderful local produce is available. There are also numerous entertainment facilities, which include a theatre and cinema.

Sports and recreation is well provided for with the Tarka Leisure Centre in the town, as well as plenty of great cycling routes, and nearby beaches for water sports enthusiasts.

There are several primary schools serving the Roundswell area of Barnstaple and the town also has two secondary schools. Petroc College provides further and higher education opportunities.

Berryfields is well-placed if you need connections further afield. With Barnstaple station close at hand you can catch a train, be in Exeter in just over an hour and connect with inner-city services to Bristol and London. Exeter and its International Airport are a little over an hour away by car.
