About the role
We are seeking a committed and experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead the development and delivery of our health, safety and environmental strategy across the South West.
Based at our Head Office, with regular travel to sites, this pivotal role ensures the safety of all employees, subcontractors, and visitors, while championing a culture of continuous improvement and legal compliance.
Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with our Head of Construction, you will:
- Lead and manage all health and safety functions across the business, including multiple live construction sites, yard and office environments.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s health and safety management system.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure controls are in place.
- Work closely with site managers, construction teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to promote safe working practices.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring robust reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Deliver internal training and toolbox talks to improve awareness and competence.
- Keep up to date with relevant health and safety legislation, regulatory changes, and industry trends.
- Produce and present accurate reports and statistics to the senior leadership team.
- Liaise with external regulators, consultants, and accreditation bodies where necessary.
- Act as the company’s lead competent person for health and safety.
This is a strategic, high-impact role for a proactive leader with strong knowledge of construction safety standards and an ability to influence across all levels of the business.
About you:
You are a confident and qualified health and safety professional with:
- Certified Member of IOSH (CertIOSH) status working towards Chartership (CMIOSH) as minimum
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety
- Demonstratable CPD (Continuous Professional Development)
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in health and safety within construction or housebuilding
- References and Testimonials
- Strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk management, and incident investigation
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and engage across a range of stakeholders
- A collaborative and professional approach, with the ability to coach, motivate and develop others
Desirable qualifications include:
- Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH)
- Member of the Association of Project Safety (IMaPS or CMaPS)
- Member of IEMA (Affiliate)
- Mental Health First Aider and First Aid certification
- Scaffold Inspection
